Swimming Pool Covers

Swimming Pool covers are an essential item for your swimming pool.  Not only do they provide protection from falling debris but they act as an essential barrier to stop children and pets from falling in and drowning.  A covered pool is more eco-friendly than an uncovered pool and can help to reduce maintenance and chemical costs and save on water and heating costs by up to 70% in the long run. Swimming pool covers come in several different shapes and sizes and in different materials so it is important that you choose the right cover for your pool.  Whether you have an in ground pool or an above ground pool you can find a cover to suit you.   So what pool cover is right for you? Well that all depends on what type of pool you have.  So let’s take a look at the varying options available on the market today:

Heatsavr Swimming Pool Covers

When pool covers are not practical for you, you don’t fancy sighting rollers or cover housing or you have a difficult shaped pool, the Heatsavr Liquid Pool Cover might be to your liking. Acting a little similar to the solar powered covers they help to reduce heating and energy costs and slow down the rate of evaporation by trapping solar energy, keeping you pool warmer for longer.

The Heatsavr Liquid pool covers are made from a biodegradable liquid and produce a transparent layer over your pools’ surface so are more attractive to look at and are very easy to use and pack away. The pool cover comes with an automatic dosing system that releases a small amount of heat saver into your pool at the same time each day. The heat saver that is released into the water is safe even when in use and is non-corrosive to pipes, filters and chlorine controllers so you won’t even know it is present.

The only set back to using liquid pool covers is that they can only be used on calm, steady days. When the winds set in you could encounter a little damage to your pool cover so it is advised they are only used when conditions are steady. Liquid pool covers work well on indoor pools by reducing the humidity of your pool and will last a lot longer as the elements will have no drawbacks to using this product. Winter Covers

As the cold weather sets in you have to begin to think about protecting your pool from those harsh winter nights which are to follow in the months ahead.  Not only will covering your pool with a winter cover protect it from falling debris and contaminants, but it will also help to protect it from those cold harsh elements that it may be faced with.  Falling debris over the winter months that is left for long periods of time can cause problems when it comes to their removal as summer draws in, so heavy duty winter covers are a necessity.  Winter covers have also been proven to inhibit algae growth over the winter months.  When it comes to choosing a winter cover right for your pool it comes down to personal preference.  On the market today there are many heavy duty options available which are proven to be impenetrable and are made of tight woven, criss-cross construction.  Or you may opt for a winter cover that protects your pool from debris such as leaves and twigs but allows rainwater and snow to pass through into your pool water.  Whichever style of cover you choose will be essential in maintaining the longevity of your swimming pool and also make life easier as summer draws in.

Solar Powered Covers

Solar powered pool covers are more energy efficient and can help to heat up your pool using the suns energy as well doing a good job of protecting your pool from unwanted debris.  If you want to keep heating costs down this might just be the way to go about doing so.  When the suns’ rays hit the pool without a cover the water will still heat up but most of this heat will be lost down to evaporation.  With a solar cover on your pool, heat will be trapped and this in turn will slow down the rate of evaporation.   By owning a solar powered cover, it is expected that you can save up to 70% of the water and chemicals you would normally lose from an uncovered pool saving you lots of money on water and chemicals for years to come.

Automatic Pool Covers

So you enjoy your pool and so do your family, but who has the arduous task of packing everything away at the end? If you are looking for a quick method of doing so, maybe you should look at investing in an automatic pool cover.  Automatic pool covers are very user friendly and can cover your pool within a matter of minutes by just the turn of a key.  They can be used for both indoor and outdoor pools and can be used throughout the year.  For indoor pools they are efficient at controlling humidity levels by forming a tight seal around the pool and can be used on many different shapes of pools.  You can find solar covers, winter covers and safety covers all come with the option of being automatic so you can continue to enjoy your pool minimising the time you have to spend covering it up at the end of the day.

Rollers

If you decide to opt for a swimming pool cover that is not automatic then you will most certainly need something to roll it up onto and that is where swimming pool rollers come in.  Rollers can be used with any type of swimming pool cover whether it is a solar or a winter cover.  The biggest advantage of using rollers is that they can be used on any size or shape pool, are very easy to operate and can increase the longevity of your swimming pool cover.  Being fairly inexpensive and easy to operate, it means one person can operate the pool cover alone.

Leaf Nets

Leaf nets make life a little easier when it comes to removing your winter cover at the end of the season.  If you don’t enjoy removing all of those fallen leaves and other debris that has fallen onto your pool then a leaf net might be just the answer.  Leaf nets are made of an open mesh type material and sit right on top of your winter or solar powered cover.  The leaf net collects all leaves and twigs which have accumulated over the winter months but allows water and rain to pass through making life a little easier for you.  They are great investments if you don’t want to go picking leaves and twigs and other fallen debris off of your pool cover and can easily be removed and stored away for next year.

Safety Covers

Although safety covers may stretch your bank balance a little further than all of the other options on the market, they are the most efficient at preventing accidental drowning.  If you have a family with young children it would be beneficial for you to think about investing in a safety cover for your own piece of mind.  Safety covers have to meet certain requirements and can support the weight of many individuals at any one time.   Providing such reassurance to the owner of the pool as well as keeping out bugs, leaves, twigs, dirt and dust, you and your family will be able to enjoy the swimming season trouble-free.

Whichever style of pool cover you decide is right for you and your pool in the long run they will all provide you with some form of protection.  Swimming pool covers are essential in keeping evaporation rates to a minimum, preventing accidental drowning and saving on chemical, heating and maintenance costs in the long term.  Remember that most of these options can be combined and you can now find safety nets which are also solar powered covers or winter covers and are automatic.  With so much option out there today-what are you waiting for?
